Our purpose is to provide a safe environment for Tribal Members and visitors, while also protecting the lands, culture, heritage and sovereignty of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians.
OVERVIEW
The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians Police Department is committed to providing the highest level of law enforcement services to its Members and visitors, while constantly improving the quality of life that the Tribal Community desires and deserves.
The Police Department enjoys a positive relationship with its Tribal Community and takes every opportunity to interact and engage residents and visitors. The department enforces the Tribal Peace and Protection Code, and applicable state and federal laws on the reservation. The department works closely with other law enforcement agencies to maintain a safe environment on the Shingle Springs Rancheria. In addition to sworn federal police officers (BIA-SLEC), the department employs non-sworn community service officers to assist in many areas, such as crime prevention, community outreach, dispatch, surveillance and building security.
All Tribal community service officers and sworn police officers are hired, vetted and trained to the standards of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and/or U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services (USIPA- FLETC) with continued annual training updates for all officers.
